Since 2007, over 300 artists and creative SMEs have made Grow Studios their home. From fine artists, photographers and filmmakers, to 2D modellers, architects, set and clothing designers, music producers, a blacksmith, a baker - and some of the UK’s most renowned graffiti and street artist - our community is as diverse as it is dynamic.

Today, Grow Studios houses:

  • Over 50 individual studio units

  • Coworking space combining desks and artist booths

  • A total of 120 occupants actively contributing to our creative ecosystem

Our Origins

Grow Studios was one of Hackney Wick’s first artist-led studio complexes, founded in 2007 by two local residents. The aim was simple and urgent: to offer affordable, customisable space for artists and makers.

Built with a DIY, self-organising ethos—and grounded in the principles of the circular and sharing economy—Grow has always been more than a building. It’s a space shaped collaboratively by its tenants, designed to be both sustainable and supportive.

Affordability & Flexibility

Affordability remains a core value. Despite rising costs across East London, we work closely with our tenants to ensure Grow remains financially sustainable and accessible—especially for those in the early or experimental stages of their creative careers.

Collaboration with Studio Holders

Grow Studios works hand-in-hand with Grow Hackney (our onsite bar, kitchen and venue) to create opportunities for artists and makers. Together, we’ve hosted everything from Open Studios to events like V&A Late, offering residents platforms to share, sell, and test their work.

Studio holders benefit from:

  • Discounts and offers at Grow’s bar and kitchen

  • Commissions for signage, fabrication, and creative interventions

  • Opportunities to perform or host events

  • A collaborative and supportive culture of experimentation and skill-sharing

Commitment to Community

We are proud founding members of the Hackney Wick & Fish Island Community Development Trust., established to safeguard the cultural and architectural legacy of the area and secure spaces in the community for long-term, collective use.
